The Olympia School District is seeking persons interested in helping write a Voters’ Pamphlet statement supporting or opposing an OSD Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy measure that will appear on the February 13, 2024 Special Election ballot.

Information about the proposed replacement levy is posted on the OSD website.

State law (RCW 29A.32.280) requires that OSD seek persons who want to represent the “For” and “Against” committees in the official election voters’ pamphlet. The law states in part that for each measure from a unit of local government that is included in a local voters’ pamphlet, the legislative authority of that jurisdiction “shall formally appoint a committee to prepare arguments advocating voters’ approval of the measure and shall formally appoint a committee to prepare arguments advocating voters’ rejection of the measure.”

Each committee shall have not more than three members; however, a committee may seek the advice of any person or persons. Each committee will be asked to submit a 250-word statement by December 22, 2023.

If interested in being considered by the district for appointment to either committee, please email your name, mailing address, phone number and email address to Susan Gifford, executive director of communications and community relations, at [email protected] no later than 4 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Please indicate whether you want to participate in the Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy “For” or “Against” committee.

The district expects the school board to officially name the committees, assuming volunteers step forward, at its regular board meeting on November 9, 2023. If a jurisdiction fails to appoint “For” and “Against” committees by the deadline, the Auditor’s Office will seek out and, whenever possible, appoint up to three members to each committee.
