    Special Board Meeting - June 29

    The OSD Board of Directors will hold a special meeting at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 29, 2017, in Room 201-B at the Knox Administrative Center, 1113 Legion Way SE, Olympia 98501.  This is an open, public meeting and the public is wecome to attend.

    Summer school registration is open

    Summer School registration is now available!  Classes begin on Monday, July 3 and run through August 3.  School will be in session Monday through Thursday mornings and is for middle and high school students only.

    The summer school program will be held at Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA). Please click on the "read more" link below for additional information and registration forms.

    2017-18 school year calendar

    We are pleased to announce that the Olympia School District Board of Directors has approved the calendar for the 2017-2018 school year. This calendar includes only district-wide holidays and events.  School-specific events are not included, so be sure to check school websites/calendars for specific school-related events and activities.

    Board approves interfund loan if needed due to state inaction on budget

    In a rare move caused by the Legislature’s inaction to approve a state budget, the Olympia School Board agreed on June 19 to authorize district administration to temporarily loan money from the district’s Capital Projects Fund to its General Fund if necessary to meet operating expenses.

    The Board approved the interfund transfer resolution following a public hearing on the topic.

    Free summer lunches at Garfield and Madison Elementary

    The Summer Lunch Program is a free nutrition program sponsored by Olympia Parks, Arts and Recreation, provided by OSPI and the USDA. Free lunch will be served from noon to 12:30 p.m., weekdays from June 26 – August 18 for children 18 and under. No program on July 4.

    Garfield will be a hot lunch site, while Madison will be a cold sack lunch site. No registration is necessary.

    District is hiring school bus drivers

    The Olympia School District is hiring school bus drivers for the important job of transporting students to and from school. This is an ideal job for retirees, stay-at-home parents or anyone needing a flexible schedule. No experience is necessary, and training is provided at no cost by the OSD Transportation Department.

    Bus drivers enjoy summers, school breaks, holidays and weekends off. Hours are flexible with morning and/or afternoon shifts available. Starting pay is $17.40 per hour under Teamsters Local #252.  For more information, contact the OSD Transportation Department at (360) 596-7700.

    The next bus driver training class begins on July 5, 2017.

    Spotlight on Success

    Throughout the school year Superintendent Dick Cvitanich and our Communications team put together a Spotlight on Success newsletter with stories and photos of news items that recently took place throughout our district.     Friends of the OSD

    Every few weeks we send Friends of the OSD our Spotlight on Success Newsletter. Friends of the OSD also receive emergency and school closure notices and updates on important district initiatives.
