Thurgood Marshall Middle School Solar Project Ribbon Cutting Nov. 1
The community is invited to a ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 celebrating the completion of the community solar panel installation at Thurgood Marshall Middle School. The solar project is a partnership between the school district, Olympia Community Solar and Puget Sound Solar.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. in the Thurgood Marshall MS cafeteria.
The project features more than 300 rooftop solar panels installed on the southwest-facing school roof. This area was selected because of its excellent solar exposure. This roof portion faces the school’s playfields and bus parking areas and will be visible to students as they arrive at school each day, during outside time, and at the end of the day when they board their bus.
Olympia Community Solar and Puget Sound Solar representatives, Superintendent Patrick Murphy, Olympia School Board members and other local dignitaries are expected to attend. No school board business will be conducted at this event.
