First Day of School Grades 1-12 2023-24

Wednesday, September 6

The first day of school for students during the 2023-24 school year is Wednesday, September 6, 2023 (Note: There is no early release on September 6).

Kindergarten and Preschool begin on Monday, September 11, 2023.

The first day of school can be both exciting and stressful. We have put together a few resources that will make it easier for our students and parents to get the school year off to a great start!

Below you will find links to resources like school supplies, bus routes, new student registration and more.

2023-24 School Year Calendar

The one-page 2023-24 school year calendar is available to download and print from the district website.

School Hours

View the school hours page for special programs and regular operation hours. The Olympia School District offers full-day kindergarten. All kindergarten classes follow the same schedule as their respective schools.

New Student Enrollment

Enrollment assistance is available at school offices. For more information about enrollment, please visit our Student Enrollment page.

Update Student Information Online

Please take a moment to login to your Skyward Family Access account and update your student's information for the new school year.

It is important that we verify your address, phone numbers, and emergency contact information each year, as well as any changes to your student's health.

To update the information, login to Family Access, click the tab on the left labeled "Update Your Student's Information 2023-24" and follow the prompts to submit any updates.

Administrative Office Hours

The Knox 111 Administrative Center located at 111 Bethel St. N.E. in Olympia is open to the public weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Please check individual school websites for their operating hours and additional information.

School Supply Lists

The 2023-24 elementary and middle school supply lists are included on each school's supply list page. If your school link is not included here, please check your school webpage for updates.

The Olympia Education Foundation makes the "Principal's Emergency Fund" possible at each of our schools. Please contact the school directly if you need assistance accessing school supplies for your child.

Thurston County COVID-19 flowchart

On February 17, 2023, Thurston County Public Health and Social Services (PHSS) shared an updated COVID-19 Flowchart for Symptomatic Students and Staff.

Additional COVID-19 mitigation measures are outlined in the Olympia School District In-Person and Remote Learning Updates.

Immunizations

Washington State Immunization Law requires all students attending public schools (preschool-grade 12) to provide proof of immunization, a medical exemption signed by a physician, or an exemption signed by a parent or legal guardian before entering school. For more information about required immunizations please visit the Department of Health website.

View a list of required immunizations for school children.

Child Nutrition Services

Please visit our Child Nutrition Services page for menus, payment information, free and reduced-price meal applications, nutritional guidance, and more.

  • Approved free/reduced meal application on file from the 2022-23 school year in OSD will expire October 15, 2023. To continue receiving free/reduced-price meals beyond October 15, 2023, families need to submit a new application.

Transportation

The Olympia School District Transportation Webpage can be used to look up bus stop and route information, find emergency schedule information, and other information related to transportation. Families needing to complete a transportation request form should do so on the website.

If your student plans to ride the bus to and from school in the 2023-24 school year, please register each student using this online registration form.

Volunteer

Every year, nearly 5,000 people choose to volunteer in Olympia Schools. Each year volunteers must complete an ONLINE Volunteer Application or a Paper Volunteer Application.  In addition to the application itself, two additional forms require signature and submission; the "Confidentiality Statement for Volunteers" and the "Code of Conduct for Volunteers." Once your paperwork has been received and a background check is completed, you will be contacted.

For more information about volunteering at the Olympia School District visit our Volunteer Page.
