Update February 24, 2024
Childcare will be provided by the South Sound YMCA for children 7-12 years of age during the public hearing at Madison Elementary on February 26 and at McKenny Elementary on February 29. There is no cost to families for the childcare.
There will also be American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters available at both public hearings in addition to Spanish and Vietnamese.
The Olympia School Board welcomes comments from the community about school facility efficiency review, budget and more. The following are specifics about two upcoming opportunities for providing feedback:
Public Hearings
There are two upcoming public hearings, one on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Madison Elementary School and the second on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at McKenny Elementary School.
Commenters will have up to three minutes to speak. Depending on the number of commenters, the three minute allotment may be lowered to better ensure that all have a chance to speak in a reasonable period of time.
Spanish, Vietnamese and American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters will be on-site for both public hearings.
Public Hearing re: Potential Closure of Madison Elementary School
6 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2024; Madison Elementary School
The public hearing begins at 6 p.m. at Madison Elementary School, 1225 Legion Way S.E., Olympia (multipurpose room). The public hearing will be held in person and on Zoom, and we welcome comments from all members of our community.

You may sign up online to give public comment starting at 8 a.m. Friday, February 23, 2024 and ending at 7 p.m. on Monday, February 26, 2024. In-person sign ups will also be available onsite at Madison Elementary until 7 p.m. during the public hearing (one hour after the public hearing starts).
Selection of your relationship with Madison Elementary School will determine your position by priority in the speaking list. The priority for list placement will be ordered as follows: Current Student at Madison, Current OSD Student who Attended Madison, Current Madison Staff and Family Members, Current OSD Student at a Different School, Current Staff Member at a Different School, and Other Community Members.
