Olympia School District Early Learning Program

Olympia School District is now accepting applications for Fall 2024 Preschool programs!

Intake Form

The Olympia School District offers a variety of Early Learning programs. Educational and family support services are available to children from birth to kindergarten-age at several of our elementary school sites.

Our Early Learning Programs:

Early Support Services

Early Support Services addresses the needs of families of children with disabilities from birth to age three. These services are primarily provided through a family coaching model.

Preschool

These preschool programs are primarily designed to meet needs of students with disabilities (with some spaces for Community Peers) and are located at 5 of our elementary schools.

Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP)

ECEAP offers no-cost part-day and full-day preschool options to eligible children and families. Services include instruction using a developmentally-appropriate curriculum from certified staff, transportation, meals, and family support. These programs are for children who are aged 3 or 4 at the beginning of the school year.

Community Integrated Supports (CIS)

Community Integrated Supports (CIS) provide Special Education services to children in their community-based regular early childhood program located within OSD boundaries. These services consist of direct services to students as well as consultation for early childhood providers and families.

Transition to Kindergarten (TK)

Transition to Kindergarten is designed to provide school exposure to children who have not had access to a regular early childhood program. Children can be eligible the year prior to kindergarten age eligibility.

FAQ

What if my child currently has an individualized education program (IEP) and we are moving here from another district?

If your child currently has an IEP and is already eligible for special education services, call the ECE Program Referral Line at (360) 596-7539 or email [email protected]. Once records can be reviewed and placement and eligibility are determined, directions for enrollment will be arranged with the parent.

What if I suspect my child may have a developmental delay? (e.g., communication, cognition, physical, social/emotional skills, adaptive self-help skills)

OSD offers free developmental screening during the school year for children between the ages 3 and 5 who are not yet kindergarten age and live in district boundaries. These screenings address suspected developmental delays for preschool-aged children in the areas listed above. For more information or to schedule a screening appointment, call the ECE Program Referral Line at (360) 596-7539 or email [email protected].

If there are concerns regarding the development of a child under the age of 3, free screenings and services are available to Olympia School District residents. For additional information regarding these screenings/services, call the ECE Program Referral Line at (360-596-7539) or email [email protected].

What if I believe my child is typically developing, or progressing similarly to other children their age, but hasn’t yet had a formal school experience?

OSD’s Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a transitional program designed to assist young learners between the ages of 4 and 5 who would benefit from additional support to be successful in kindergarten. This free program runs the length of the school year and is available to families who meet our program requirements. For more information, call the ECE Program Referral Line at (360) 596-7539 or email [email protected].

How will I know whether school is canceled or if there is a late start due to weather conditions?

Please follow the Olympia School District’s website and social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. We also encourage you to monitor local radio and/or television stations for up-to-date information about weather-related closures or delays. If school is open but you think it would be unsafe for your child to attend, school officials will accept your judgment and it will be treated as an excused absence.

The school district will make every effort to operate normally, despite the weather. On rare occasions, however, weather conditions may make it necessary to modify bus routes, and when that occurs, the district and media outlets will be asked to announce the use of “snow routes” or “emergency routes.” Some of the emergency route changes are listed here:
