We are thrilled to announce a special event at the Olympia School District that reflects our continued commitment to deepening our relationship with our tribal partners, particularly the Squaxin Island Tribe. On Monday, October 21, 2024, you are invited to a Squaxin Island Tribe Flag Ceremony at 111 Bethel Street NE, Olympia.
This will mark the first time the Squaxin Island Tribe flag will be raised alongside the United States and Washington State flags.
Join us in hearing from Kris Peters, Squaxin Island Tribal Chair, and Intergovernmental Liaison Ray Peters of the Squaxin Island Tribe. Additionally, OSD leadership students from the Squaxin Island Tribe will do us the honor of attending.
The ceremony will feature:
- Insight into the history and current community of the Squaxin Island Tribe
- Traditional drumming and singing
- The ceremonial raising of the Squaxin Island Flag
This is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and honor the rich heritage of the Squaxin Island Tribe. We hope to see you there for this important celebration.
