Musical Instruments

"Heavy, sharp, bulky, and/or other articles which may be hazardous in the event of an accident or an emergency stop shall not be transported in the passenger area of any school bus. Specific attention is directed to items such as skis, ski poles, vaulting poles, musical instruments, riser platforms, etc." WAC 392-145 Two important considerations regarding musical instruments are: 1. Whether the student can hold the instrument on their lap. 2. Whether the student can control their instrument. When taking these two considerations into account it has been determined that the following instruments will be allowed on the school bus appropriate to grade level: Instruments that can be transported by students of any grade level: Violin, Cornet/Trumpet, Viola, French Horn, Flute, Trombone, Clarinet, Drum Kit, Alto Sax, Guitar Instruments that cannot be transported by elementary students: Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Horn Instruments that cannot be transported by students at any grade level: Baritone Saxophone, Cello, String Bass, Larger Drum, Tuba/Sousaphone
