District Committment
The Olympia School District promotes resource conservation through policy and by supporting a Resource Conservation Management Program. In 2010 and 201, Puget Sound Energy recognized our program for excellence.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan
June 2010 the District adopted a Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Plan to help us reduce our carbon footprint.
Energy and Resource Management Policy 6810
Passed in May of 2005, this policy formalized the district's commitment to responsible use of our natural resources and the promotion of environmental stewardship among our students and staff.
Energy and Resource Conservation Procedures
In support of Policy 6810, procedures were adopted as best practices to help Olympia School District reach conservation goals and minimize resource use.
What is an RCM?
The district Resource Conservation Manager (RCM) position was established to provide district level support and coordination for conservation actions. The RCM is responsible for:
- Providing support in researching and developing resource conservation and energy efficiency opportunities;
- Sharing and explaining utility information with building occupants;
- Assisting schools to identify conservation goals and implement activities;
- Performing site audits to develop conservation action plans for facilities;
- Monitoring and measuring utility cost and use for each site;
- Identifying billing problems, unusual resource consumption, and cost effective rate choices;
- Reporting resource use to utilities, staff and the School Board;
- Recognizing buildings and individuals for successful conservation programs;
- Providing educational resources to integrate resource conservation into school operations and curriculum.
