Student Assistance Program--

Since 1996 the mission of the Student Assistance Program has been to ensure the safety, health and well-being of all students through a program which emphasizes alcohol, tobacco, other drug and violence prevention, intervention and support programs.

The Olympia School District's Student Assistance Program is a comprehensive prevention and early intervention program targeted at reducing the risks of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use and violence among our youth through a coordinated effort of school and community-based programs and resources.

The district-wide program provides direct and indirect services to students and their families directly related to substance abuse and other risk-taking behaviors effecting success in school and beyond. Identified students receive formalized screenings, referral for assessments, individual/small group counseling and corrdinated services based on individual and family need. All services are provided by the District's two Certified Chemical Dependency Professionals.

Prevention: The District assists students through alcohol, tobacco, and other drug education and guidance to enhance positive life choices while reducing at-risk behaviors.

Early Intervention: The District identifies students and families in need of support and assistance, provides on-going individual and group counseling, referrals for chemical dependency assessments, and continued education for students and families

Aftercare Support: The District provides support to students currently involved in, and/or returning to, school from a treatment program.

Individualized Programs:  Individual counseling is provided for those students who have exhibited co-occuring conditions, have requested individual session or who are found to benefit more from an individualized program.

Community Connections--

The development and implementation of the  comprehensive program includes a strong community component.  Community involvement includes; on-going program coordination with TOGETHER! - community coalition-, referral and direct communication with alcohol and othe drug treatment agencies and mental health agencies, coordination and communication with the courts, Community Youth Services, and the Department of Health and Social Services.
