High School and Beyond Plan
Students will have an education plan for their high school experience, including what they expect to do upon graduating. The high school principal and staff will develop specific components for the High School and Beyond Plan.
State Assessments and the High School Diploma
Recently, state policymakers decided to replace the Washington Assessment of Student Learning (WASL) with a shorter test that began in the 2009-2010 school year. Students in grades 3-8 will take the Measurements of Student Progress (MSP) while high school students will take the High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE). Replacing the WASL, however, does not eliminate the state high school graduation requirements. High School students still need to pass the reading and writing portions of the HSPE and either pass the math test or earn two credits of math after 10th grade. Students can also meet the assessment requirement by passing other state-approved alternatives.
Culminating Project
Each student will complete a culminating project for graduation. This project consists of students demonstrating their learning competencies. All projects will, at a minimum, include the following components:
- Project Proposal
- Reflective Paper
- End Result Product
- Journal
- Annotated Bibliography
- Presentation
