What paperwork do I need to fill out?

Kindergarten registration begins March 26, 2012. Below are the basic forms you will need. In addition to filling out the following forms, please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate and proof of residency (such as a utility bill).

Each year, school districts in Washington State are required to report student data by ethnicity and race categories to the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI).

Does my child attend school all day or half-day?

The Olympia School District offers morning kindergarten classes, afternoon kindergarten classes and full day kindergarten classes.  For more details about these different programs and availability, contact your resident school.

Application for Extended-Day Assistance

What time does school start and end for my child in kindergarten?

AM kindergarten begins at approximately 9am and ends at 11:40am, PM kindergarten begins at 12:40pm and ends at 3:22 pm. Verify with your child's school on exact start and end times.

Visit our school websites for more information

What about lunch?

If your child attends kindergarten half-day (either AM or PM), they do not eat lunch, though snacks are provided during morning and afternoon sessions. If your child will be attending school all day, visit OSD's Child Nutritional Services for information on meal payment, qualification for free or reduced meals, menus and District nutrition in our schools.

How do I get my child set up with busing?

If your child will be riding the bus to and/or from school, please fill out the Kindergarten Transportation Registration Form and Transportation Release of Responsiblity. Our Transportation Department will contact you before school starts for your child to discuss pickup and dropoff times and other pertinent busing information.

Please be aware that an adult is not required to be present for our buses to pick up or drop off a student before or after school, except for special needs students, who must have someone at home before and after school (unless the parent feels the student is capable without someone present). If your kindergarten student is dropped off in the middle of the day, an adult must be present.

We encourage you to discuss safety and bus rules with your child, and begin preparing him or her for future busing with the OSD. Visit Transportation for more information.
