2012 Summer Construction Projects
Thanks to the support from local voters and the recent passage of our Capital Improvement Bond in February, the Olympia School District will begin several construction projects this summer. Below is a short description of the projects taking place at each facility in the district. Avanti High School

Boston Harbor Elementary School
No projects scheduled at this time.
Capital High School
Crews will complete several projects at Capital High School this summer. They will construct a new bus loop for the safe arrival and departure of students, staff and visitors. In addition, the will construct a covered storage area for the Career & Technical Education (CTE) program for supplies and equipment. Other outside facility work includes the replacement of electrical transformer, the installation of an emergency generator and security fencing along the eastern property line. Inside the building, crews will remodel the older restrooms and will replace the backboard safety straps in the gym.
Centennial Elementary / New Middle School
Plans for a new middle school on the campus of Centennial Elementary are currently on hold as staff continues to evaluate student enrollment numbers in the Southeast corner of the district. Our original projections for student growth in this area have not hit their expected targets. We will look at student enrollment numbers in the fall and determine at that time whether or not the district will move forward with building the new middle school or put it on hold and remodel Centennial Elementary.
Garfield Elementary School
McGranahan Architects was the firm selected to help design the modernized facility at Garfield Elementary. This summer the firm will begin the educational specifications and design process so that the district can begin applying for permits, which will allow construction on the facility to begin in the Summer of 2013. Projects scheduled for Garfield include: replacing the gym; replacing the cafeteria; replacing the covered walkways; adding a new HVAC system, new exterior building finishes, new windows and skylights, all new interior finishes, a new roof, new doors and hardware; replacing portables with permanent classrooms; reconfiguring classroom pods in order to increase visual site lines; street frontage improvements; replacing the playground equipment; replacing site furnishings; and landscaping enhancements.
Hansen Elementary School
Crews will re-roof and paint the entire school.
Jefferson Middle School
Crews will remodel and modernize classrooms to accommodate the expansion of the JAMS science, technology, engineering and math program. In addition, crews will: refinish gym flooring; replace the auxiliary gym flooring; make HVAC improvements; conduct site drainage work; and modernize exterior and interior finishes.
Lincoln Elementary
Crews will make HVAC improvements, while making siding repairs and painting the exterior of the building.
LP Brown Elementary
During Spring Break, HVAC improvements were made to the school’s Music Room.
Madison Elementary School
Crews will replace rest room and gym flooring.
Marshall Middle School
Crews will replace all vinyl flooring.
McKenny Elementary School
Crews will re-roof and paint the entire school.
McLane Elementary School
Crews will repaint the wood siding on the entire facility.
Olympia High School
Crews will replace safety sensors in the Performing Arts Center lecture halls and they will paint older portable classrooms.
Olympia Regional Learning Academy (ORLA)
Crews will begin the educational specifications and design process so that construction of the new ORLA facility can begin during the summer of 2013.
Pioneer Elementary School
No projects scheduled at this time.
Reeves Middle School
No projects scheduled at this time.
Roosevelt Elementary School
Crews will re-roof the entire school and replace the fire alarm system.
Washington Middle School
Crews will enclose the school’s presentation area that is adjacent to the library.
