2012 Levy & Bond
Board Approves Bond & Levy Proposals for February 14, 2012 Election
On Monday, November 14, 2011, the Olympia School District Board of Directors approved a Capital Improvement Bond proposal and a four year Maintenance & Operation Replacement Levy proposal to appear on the ballots for the February 14, 2012 election.
The Maintenance and Operations Levy is a replacement levy to cover the gap between state funding and the cost of existing education programs. Levy funds replace dollars essential for the continuing programs of the Olympia School District. Almost every school program receives some financial support from local money. Funding from the local levy supports areas like: teachers, support staff, supplies, facilities operations, athletics, transportation, special programs like arts and music, and much more. A 50% +1 “yes” vote is needed to pass the levy.
The Olympia School District is also requesting support for a $97.8 million bond that will ensure the district has adequate and safe facilities to serve students now and in the future. The bond proposal includes building a new middle school on the campus of Centennial Elementary, constructing a new Olympia Regional Learning Academy, making significant renovations at Garfield Elementary, many upgrades at Jefferson Middle School, and more than 50 small works projects throughout the district. A 60% +1 “yes” vote is needed to pass the bond. More information about both the levy and bond can be found in the attached document below.
