SchoolMessenger announces Web security update

An important update is being made to SchoolMessenger Presence websites, which includes the Olympia School District website, to improve browser security.

There is a security threat called ROBOT that is making its way around the internet. In order to guard against this threat and protect customer websites, the company that oversees SchoolMessenger Presence will be closing several older, insecure internet protocols (affects older versions of Internet Explorer browsers) that can allow ROBOT access. This update will take place on or around Friday, March 16.

This security update will have no impact on most browsers. However, visitors to Olympia’s district and school websites will no longer be able to use Internet Explorer (IE) 10 and below. For reference, Internet Explorer version 11 was released in 2013 and these older versions of IE have not been supported by Microsoft for roughly two years.
