Transportation Department
Transporting Safely Through Teamwork
The timely and safe delivery of students to and from school is a huge responsibility that requires the teamwork of many people. Bus drivers, mechanics, driver trainers, dispatchers, office staff, and the transportation supervisor act as a team to accomplish safe transportation every day.
Buses are inspected prior to leaving the transportation facility to insure that all mechanical and safety systems operate properly. In addition, regular preventative maintenance keeps the fleet in top condition. The Washington State Patrol inspects the entire fleet each summer additionally they arrive unannounced during the winter and randomly inspect 25% of the fleet.
All Olympia school bus drivers are thoroughly trained, and attend annual in-service classes to keep up to date with safety awareness. Each of our drivers is certified in first aid, CPR, they hold commercial driver licenses, and they are subject to Washington State Patrol and FBI background checks.
The Olympia School District Transportation Web Page can be used to look up bus stop and route information, find emergency schedule information, and other information related to transportation. Staff members can request field trip buses and confirm the schedule information. As we grow we hope to be able to continue to serve the members of the community in an efficient manner.
The Transportation Center is open from 6 AM to 5 PM on days when school is in session. On non-school week days, office hours are generally from 6 AM to 2:30 PM. The Transportation Center is located in the Mottman Industrial Area.
