Title I- Lap Parent Advisory Committee
The purpose of this important parent-community group is to advise Olympia School District on matters concerning the federal Title 1 and state’s Learning Assistance Programs. These programs award funding to high poverty schools at the elementary and secondary levels, and that funding provides extra assistance to students. Title 1 is part of the No Child Left Behind Act. By being part of this committee, you will have input on the programs at your school and for the district….all helping your child’s present and future education.

Attendance for the parent classes this year was mixed. There seemed to be 30-40 parents at some of the initial meetings, and then less participation in the winter and spring. The parents who came appreciated the information and the sharing.
-
Marie Neely would like to continue to coordinate the parent ed classes next year. She would like input for future guest speakers or topics from this parent committee.
3. Olympia School District Parent Involvement Policy
-
During the February 27, 2008 meeting, a copy of the revised district policy was distributed to the parent advisory group, and asked for input by March 15.

On April 21, the revised Parent Policy #4130 was approved by the board. Assistant Superintendent Hans Landig presented the required policy outlining the District’s responsibility to involve parents in the education process for their children.
4. Consolidated Program Review
-
On February 11-13, 2008, all our federal and state programs were reviewed by OSPI. This program review occurs every four years as a tool to provide technical support to schools.
-
Overall, our Title 1, LAP, and Homeless programs received outstanding marks for the quality of our programs.
-
There were some minor compliance issues that had to do more with paperwork than actual program deficits. These have all been rectified and will be in compliance next year:
-
LAP – student learning plans needed minor revisions
-
Parent Involvement Policy needed minor revisions
-
Title 1 schoolwides needed to include narrative descriptions about their programs
-
On-going consultation with private schools needed better documentation
